ABOUT US

YOU'RE IN GOOD HANDS

DENTIST DR.
NIBRAS SHARIF

I graduated from the University of Alberta Dental Department in 2014. I also researched antibacterial therapies and childhood decay during my PhD while living in Norway. Being in the dental field for over 22 years, I have learned the importance of keeping up with the latest research, techniques and technology. Having had childhood dental anxiety and a gag reflex has made me understand what patients face when going to the dentist. I therefore strive to create an anxiety-free environment and listen to the needs of my patients. I have a special interest in calming anxiety through the use of guided relaxation techniques. I enjoy long walks, listening to music, yoga and meditating. I believe in the importance of positive energy in both our actions and thoughts. I also love writing and illustrating concepts related to my work. In 2021, I published a children’s book called (How To Shape A Perfect Smile). Currently I am working on my second book on the benefits of chewing. My ultimate goal is to help you reach your health needs for life. We strive to create a friendly and compassionate atmosphere in our clinic. My aim is to always be honest and give options for your needs. I look forward to meeting you and having the pleasure of being your dentist.

FAQ

The biggest benefit of regular dental exams is to catch small problems before they get bigger. Regular dental exams will not only help save your teeth but also reduce future pain and dental costs. Dental exams not only covers teeth but also includes your gums, cancer screening and cracks or tooth wear. If you have a history of gum disease or fillings, tend to snack, smoke, under stress or change in health then it is highly advisable to see the dentist at least once a year.

It is recommended that a child sees a dentist 6 months after the first tooth erupts (between the age of 1 and 2 years).

Xrays show layers of teeth that are not visible to the dentist. Xrays show early signs of bone changes, cavities and even large deposits of tartar under the gum. Modern digital Xrays are safe and have low radiation. It is recommended that Xrays be taken once a year and only as needed. If you have other concerns you can discuss them with your dentist.

The major advantage to polishing teeth is for removing stains. Polishing is best done selectively to target areas with staining only. Polishing is not always needed especially if you are a non-smoker and if you avoid foods and drinks that cause staining like tea, coffee and wine.

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that has been shown to prevent cavities for life when given to children. Fluoride is also highly recommended for seniors to prevent root cavities near the gums. Fluoride also helps reduce sensitivity after cleaning. Fluoride is not necessary for adults with low risk of cavities.

We can help you by offering guided relaxation techniques, nitrous gas or oral sedation pills. We can better assess your situation during the exam on what type of sedation is needed. If you have a phobia, we can start with an email, phone call or virtual meeting to discuss your needs first.

At our office we have a unique electrical lift that can tilt a wheelchair patient back while they sit in their wheelchair. Please call us for more information.
